Front Yard Farming Creates Thriving Spaces
In an era where sustainability is no longer a luxury but a necessity, Luma Front Yard Farming is helping Northern California homeowners transform their gardens into resilient, biodiverse ecosystems.

This Sonoma-based service is rooted in regenerative gardening principles and offers everything from personal consultations to full-scale garden installations—meeting people wherever they are in their gardening journey.
“The more home gardeners use regenerative agriculture techniques, the greater impact we can have together on the climate crisis,” says Caitlin Spirlock, owner and designer at Luma Front Yard Farming.
One result of these techniques is actively supporting climate resilience by drawing carbon from the atmosphere and storing it in the soil. This approach works with nature’s cycles, minimizing disruption and allowing ecosystems to restore themselves. Ultimately, regenerative agriculture is about trusting nature’s ability to heal when we step back and support its rhythms.
Spirlock’s top priority is always education, building healthy living soil, and supporting ecological restoration. Every project is rooted in regenerative principles and focused on long-term sustainability rather than quick fixes. Spirlock believes that growing food and supporting pollinators can be beautiful and abundant, and she aims to create thriving ecosystems that achieve just that. Her thoughtful approach ensures that every inch of her client's yards is used intentionally, blending function, beauty, and care.
“I always suggest perennial pollinator plants, then add in summer annuals—like a cherry on top of the ice cream,” she explains. “A few of my favorite perennials are yarrow, margarita bop (native penstemon), mimulus (monkey flower), and hummingbird sage. Blueberries are one of my favorite food crops that are easily intermixed with pollinators.”
Even in small spaces, tone can create vibrant, functional gardens—and that’s exactly Spirlock’s specialty. Her approach emphasizes layering plants of varying heights to add depth and dimension, making compact areas feel dynamic and inviting. She’ll often intermix edible gardens with perennial pollinator plants, and works closely with clients to choose a streamlined color palette. This approach ensures the garden feels intentional, harmonious, and tailored to the client’s vision.
Since regenerative gardening works with nature, it’s typically less time-consuming than traditional methods, making it both accessible and sustainable.
“When we have healthy living soil, the food we consume is much more nutrient dense and tastes so much better!” shares Spirlock. “Soil health is the basis of life.”
With Luma Front Yard Farms, a lush, low-maintenance, and environmentally conscious garden isn’t just possible—it’s within reach.
