Greetings!
I am delighted to take the reins as editor of Made Local Magazine from the talented Kary Hess as we move forward with the mission of sharing stories of Sonoma County’s unique culture of food, agriculture, art, and entrepreneurship.
After nearly three decades in Sonoma County, I remain impressed and inspired by the tapestry of forces that make our home so compelling.
In this issue, we share stories of women-owned family businesses. Good Gray in Penngrove is helmed by the dynamic mother-daughter team Laural and Lily Reid. They have created a welcoming shop that brings function to art in daily living. Breathless Wines in Healdsburg is owned by sisters Sharon Cohn, Rebecca Faust, and Cynthia Faust. Their mission is to produce sparkling wines that complement all of life’s celebrations. Holiday bubbles, anyone?
I am happy to welcome the California Indian Museum & Culture Center with a regular column, California Native Table. This month, museum director Nicole Lim explains the ongoing significance of acorns to Native people. While Evan Wiig visits Jardín del Pueblo, a special local farm supporting the farm working community.
During this holiday season, keep in mind that the local shops decked out with seasonal cheer are owned and operated by our neighbors. We’ve shared a brief selection of local shops, Hidden Gems, that may help bring the spirit of holiday shopping back into focus.
During this time of busy days and long nights, please take a moment one night to step outside for a gaze at the stars. They hold the stories shared with people across the globe, connecting us all to the things that truly matter. Especially in changing times.
